Remnants of Life: death by red tide - Longboat Key
The summer of 2018 devastated Southwest Florida's Gulf Coast beaches with a horrific, persistent red-tide bloom. Hundreds of tons of fish along with sea turtles, manatees, and at least one whale shark washed up on Florida beaches from the massive red-tide bloom. During my annual family beach vacation, the red-tide bloom was waning yet remnants of ocean life cut short by the algae toxins littered the sandy shores.
