Colony Cove Microforest Planting
On June 13, 2022, a one-acre microforest was installed on the Colony Cove 1 ½ acre peninsula within the Manatee River. Colony Cove is an age-qualified Equity Lifestyles Properties (ELA) manufactured home community located in Ellenton, FL along the Manatee River.
The ELS manufactured home portfolio includes over 200 communities nationwide within some of the most desirable housing markets in the country. Sustainability is at the core of the ELS Our Nature, Uniting People, Places & Purpose commitment. ELS funded the microforest installation as well as the soil testing via New College to substantiate the carbon sequestration and other soil benefits provided by the microforest.
Suncoast Urban Reforesters (SURF) orchestrated the Colony Cove microforest installation within the Solutions to Avoid Red Tide (START) umbrella. As SURF members, the Sarasota Bay Rotary Club and Elemental Impact participated in the microforest-tree-planting day. This gallery documents the empowering day.
