Remnants of Life: Death by Red Tide
The summer of 2018 devastated Southwest Florida's Gulf Coast beaches with a horrific, persistent red tide bloom. Hundreds of tons of fish along with sea turtles, manatees, and at least one whale shark washed up on Florida beaches from the massive red tide bloom. During my annual family beach vacation, the red tide bloom was waning yet remnants of ocean life cut short by the algae toxins littered the sandy shores.
